The classic loop: Istanbul, Cappadocia, Ephesus
Nine days, three anchors, two long travel legs — the route most first trips to Türkiye settle on, paced the way the planner actually paces it. Every place below has its own full guide; every travel leg has a verified route page.
Most first trips to Türkiye converge on the same triangle, and for honest reasons: Istanbul is the door, Cappadocia is the landscape no photograph prepares you for, and Ephesus is the best-preserved Roman city on the Mediterranean's eastern shore. The mistake is not the route — it is the pacing. Nine days is what this loop actually costs once the travel legs are counted as what they are: full days.
Days 1–3 · Istanbul. Three days, split the way the planner splits them: the Sultanahmet monuments — Hagia Sophia, Topkapı Palace, the Blue Mosque — share walking days because they share a square, and the Bosphorus ferry takes the third. Prayer-time closures shape the monument days; the individual guides carry the details.
Day 4 · the road to Cappadocia. Just over five hours door to door on the fastest verified option — flight time is only part of it, and the route page counts the transfers and the airport buffer, not just the boarding pass. Treat it as a travel day and arrive with the evening free.
Days 5–7 · Cappadocia. Three days that alternate altitude: the balloon flight at dawn, the Göreme Open Air Museum, the Red and Rose Valleys on foot, and Derinkuyu — a city eight floors down. Balloons fly at dawn or not at all, so put the flight on your first morning and keep the second as its weather spare.
Day 8 · the road to the Aegean. Cappadocia to Ephesus is another honest travel day — the route page has every verified way across.
Day 9 · Ephesus. One dense day: Curetes Street walked downhill, the Library of Celsus, the Terrace Houses under their roof, the Great Theatre last.
If you have two more days: Pamukkale slots between the last two anchors — Cappadocia to Pamukkale on the way west, then Pamukkale to Ephesus is under four and a half hours. The planner will re-pace the whole trip when you add it.
