Why it matters
Aspendos grew near the Eurymedon River and issued its own coinage. Its second-century Roman theatre is exceptionally well preserved, but the aqueduct system, basilica, agora, and acropolis show the larger city behind the famous façade.
What to know before you go
Give the theatre time before walking uphill. Its enclosed stage building creates the immediate drama, yet the more revealing moment comes when the rest of Aspendos appears across the acropolis and aqueduct line.
Performances and night-museum programmes can change access. Check the official notice on the day, especially if you plan a late visit, and do not assume the theatre follows ordinary site hours.
